Who’ll Stop the Rain — This Friday Song

It has been raining almost every day for the past week in Tallahassee, so “Who’ll Stop the Rain” by Credence Clearwater Revival seemed like an excellent choice for this Friday’s song. It was a choice between this and another CCR standard “Fortunate Son” which has come to mind for some reason quite a bit this past week as well. I actually decided to share both.

“Who’ll Stop the Rain” was released in January 1970 on their Cosmos Factory album. The film Mash was released that month and Pan Am took delivery of the first commercial Boeing 747. I was a sophomore at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, MA. I was working as a busboy at the Prince Spaghetti House in Saugus, MA.

CCR dominated the airways with back-to-back hits in 1969 and 1970. “Who’ll Stop the Rain” was always one of my favorites. It is almost hard to believe that they only played together as CCR for four years.
