This Friday’s song, Tupelo Honey by Van Morrison, was released when I was senior in high school. It was the title song for Morrison’s fifth album. Morrison had been a favorite artist for me since I first heard Brown Eyed Girl several years before.
This song evoked very different, really intense feelings of both beauty and pain for me. Morrison speaking to my Irish heart I guess. There are multiple contending themes that are twisted up in the lyrics, but it seem to work anyways. Saxophonist Jack Schroer has some great moments. It is more country than R&B. Probably an early indicator of where my musical tastes would evolve to.
It has always been on my personal “top 10” favorites list. Hope you take a minute and enjoy this heading into the first weekend of Fall in this crazy year.
