I am getting caught up on both the Bosch and DCI Ryan series that I have been reading, so thought I would look for another mystery series. I like to have one that’s a more relaxed read between more “serious” books. Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series was recommended and available on KU, so I decided to check it out. Started with Still Life which is Book 1. Gamache is an interesting character. Not sure the series is in the same class as Simenon’s Maigret, but I am going to try the next book to see if this gets added to this winter’s reading list.
Still Life
By Louise Penny
A Chief Inspector Gamache Mystery
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.
