Sing Me Back Home by Don Williams

Sing Me Back Home — This Friday’s Song

This Friday’s song is “Sing Me Back Home”, a 2014 cover of the 1967 Merle Haggard hit performed by Don Williams. Williams has been favorite of mine since I lived in Texas, to borrow the title of a William’s song, ‘back in my younger days.’ I have a dedicated playlists of his hits and a number of his other songs are included on other playlists. Some of my favorite William’s songs are “It Must Be Love”, Good Old Boys Like Me, and “I Believe in You“.

Williams has a very simple and classic country style. His voice is mellow and relaxing. He had at least one major hit every year between 1974 and 1991 with fifty-six chart records. Fifty of these reached the country Top Twenty, forty-five made the Top Ten and seventeen went to #1. If you watched Smokey and the Bandit II, Williams performed a couple of the songs including “Tulsa Time“.

Even though he recorded this version of “Sing Me Back Home” very late in his career, his voice is as solid and engaging as it ever was. If you enjoy country music and don’t know him, his songs are definitely worth exploring.

Hope you enjoy!
