Sailing by Christopher Cross — This Friday’s Song

This Friday’s song is “Sailing” by Christopher Cross. Released in 1980, “Sailing” became one of Cross’s most successful tracks, earning him Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). The song’s lyrics evoke a sense of tranquility and a yearning for exploration, as Cross sings about setting sail and leaving the troubles of life behind.

I have lots of great memories of the summer of 1980 when this song was released. I had moved to Houston from Boston that May. I had a great job as a software developer for Texas Instruments. I had a great apartment in a spanking brand-new complex on FM 1960. I discovered country music and was learning how to two-step. I met a ton of new people, some of whom became life-long friends.

Hope you enjoy “Sailing” by Christopher Cross.
