Latest Read — The Eye of the World

Finished The Eye of the World by Robert Jordon recently. This is the first book in the Wheel of Time which will be coming to Amazon Prime later this year (see teaser below). I never read the series when it was first released in the 1990s. I did read the prequel to the series, New Spring, with Kindle Unlimited last year and decided to take a crack at the series.

The book puts you into a very similar world as Tolkien did in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. The theme of power and its use is the focal point as it was in the Lord of the Rings. Unlike Frodo whose goal was to destroy the Ring, a corrupting power, the main character in Jordan’s novel must learn how to wield power, the One Source, to defeat evil.

The book is long at 753 pages. He has a deep set of characters and uses this first book to lay out the physical and political geography of the world you are immersed in. it git a little slow as I was reading the first half, but the last half developed the characters and story well.
