This Friday’s song is It Won’t Be Like This for Long by Darius Rucker. This song was released in November 2008. I had moved to the Florida Keys the year before so that my son Ryan and I could be together full time. We were living in a little two-bedroom “conch house” that we called “The Egg” because it was painted in bright Easter egg colors.

I read Ryan a bedtime story every night. There were a lot of nights that I would listen to this song after he fell asleep. For those of you that know some of our backstory, you will understand why these lyrics grabbed my heart then and still do today
He lays down there beside her
Till her eyes are finally closed
And just watching her it breaks his heart
Cause he already knows
It wont be like this for long
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
Yeah this phase is gonna fly by
He’s trying to hold on
It won’t be like this for long
It won’t be like this for long

Teresa and I got to see Rucker perform live in West Palm Beach a few years back. I think we were both a little “teared-up” when he did this one.
Hope you enjoy!
