In the midst of all the posturing, screaming, and far too often, hatred and vilification of other Americans, please take a moment today to remember each of the men and women who left their lives and families behind to protect and defend our values, our way of life, our freedoms, and the Constitution of the United States. Take a moment to reflect on the courage and character of those that made the ultimate sacrifice so all of our children would have the freedom and opportunities that are denied to so many around the world.

I know there are many who see it differently or believe that other economic systems or forms of government would serve us better. Having experienced life under many of the alternatives, it is my belief that, despite its flaws and failings, the system crafted by our founders is still the best guarantee of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for every American.
I think this song by Tim McGraw says it better than I ever could. On this Memorial Day 2021, please remember and thank each soldier who has died for us.

Half way around the world
I won’t be there
To see the birth of our little girl
I hope she looks like you
I hope she fights like me
Stand up for the innocent and weak
I’m laying down my gun
I’m hanging up boots
Tell dad I don’t regret that I followed in his shoes
