Here Comes the Sun — This Friday’s Song

This Friday’s song is “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. It was written by George Harrison and helped establish him as a composer in his own right. It was released on the Abbey Road album in 1969. Ir reflects the ability of the human spirit to look ahead and have hope even in the midst of difficulty.

While I was a student at C.W. Post College in the mid-seventies, I was heavily involved in student government. We had slates of candidates who ran as a “party”. We formed a party that was called “Student Unity Now during my sophomore year.” There were big political divisions in the country. There were also lots of divisions on the campus. Our goal was to bring try to bring groups together to do something productive instead of just yelling at each other. We had small orange buttons with SUN in black bold type and played “Here Comes the Sun” for all our events. It worked! Our slate of candidates swept the election.

Since then, this song has always been about “beginnings” for me. I am starting a new gig next week and thought it would be a good choice. I picked the 2019 video mix which is pretty true to the original recording.

Hope you enjoy “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles!
