This Friday’s song is “Can’t You See” by the Marshall Tucker Band. The song was originally recorded by the band on their 1973 debut album and released as the album’s first single. It was re-released in 1977. The original version features a flute riff at the beginning and end by Jerry Eubanks.
In 1973, I was a freshman at CW Post College on Long Island. Southern rock was just starting to take over the popular music charts and songs like this one were stables of college dorm life in the early 70s. The Post campus had a 3000 seat domed venue that featured many acts who played the NYC concert circuit.
