Cafe Karibo Amelia Island

Cafe Karibo Fernandina Beach

We arrived on Amelia Island about four hours before we could check into our hotel. We planned to explore downtown Fernandina and grab some lunch. There are a lot of great choices withing a four block area.

Cafe Karibo received a lot of positive reviews on the “pro” sites and on the consumer sites like Open Table and Yelp. It looked eclectic and cool and all the reviews raved about the food. We decided to give it a try.

The Cafe Karibo menu has an solid range of choices. It had been a while since we had had good seafood, so we chose the Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich. It was served on a toasted brioche roll with tomato, lettuce, red onion, pickle chips, fresh cole slaw, tropical fruit salsa, and a spicy aioli, It came with a side of house fries which were both regular and sweet potato fries.

The fish was very fresh and blackened perfectly. The “toppings” were all very fresh. The fries were perfectly done. Because we ordered one sandwich to share, they split it for us in the kitchen. The only issue was the sandwich was so big, it was almost impossible to pick up and bite.

We ordered the Backporch Lemonade which was vodka, lemonade, cranberry juice and ginger beer. It was very refreshing.

This was a great meal to kick off our visit to Amelia Island. Cafe Karibo is definitely on the Fleming’s “You Gotta Try It” list.
