Amado Mio — This Friday’s Song

Amado Mio by Pink Martini is a cover from their 1997 album Sympathique that has been in my music collection for quite a while. The song was originally featured in the 1946 film Gilda with Rita Hayworth. Grace Jones did a version in the 1980s as well. I have always liked the Pink Martini version the best.

Amado Mio has always been a favorite of mine and when I started dating my wife Teresa, I discovered it was a favorite of hers as well. Hadn’t played the song for a while. We had dinner at one of our favorite Coral gables restaurants, Pascals on Ponce, last week and they played it. Decided it would be a great choice for this Friday’s Song.

This 2011 performance of Amado Mio in Seattle featured Storm Large on vocals. Pink Martini has an amazing discography. They have an interesting history. If you don’t know them, this should be a great introduction. Hope you enjoy Amado Mio!
